The use of organic pigment for coating, especially in the field of powder paints, have registered strong growth rates in recent years. Although the use of pigments containing lead was still clearly dominant until the beginning of the 1990s, organic pigments have increasingly become a means of coloring in the most diverse fields of application, especially for toxicological and ecological reasons. The demand for organic pigments grows continuously and poses to the manufacturers of finishes the challenge of reformulating the tones of conventional colors in a most effective way possible.
The areas of application of organic pigments for the coloring of materials are very varied; they are used in the paint and varnish sector, in the printing ink sector and in the plastics and fibers sector. In addition there are other special applications as, for example, in the sector of office supplies. In everyday life we find a lot of examples of surface coatings in which organic pigments are used.
The requirements to be met by organic pigments for the formulation differ in some areas substantially from those of conventional liquid paint systems. In order to achieve a very good color result in the final product, several parameters must be observed at the same time in the selection of pigments and in the processing. To avoid errors in the estimates, you must always analyze the properties of the entire system as a whole.
Together with the chemical and physical properties of the material to be colored, the methods and processing conditions are decisive.
